The 329 Heel Lock Ankle Brace was designed and developed to be a practical and affordable ankle stabilization device. It provides significant medial and lateral ankle support, a strong heel locking mechanism along with improved elastic resiliency and comfort to the entire ankle complex.
The 329 Heel Lock Ankle Brace addresses the issue of ankle support by providing the type of support, stability and resiliency to the ankle complex that goes well beyond having an ankle taped. The fabrics that are used in manufacturing the 329 are what makes the support an effective ankle stabilizing device.
The state of the art compression sock portion of the 329 brace applies significant but comfortable compression to all of the ligament groups within the ankle complex. The compression sock is superior to the first layers of tape that are applied to the ankle when being taped because of it’s elasticity and resiliency. Compression is being applied to create resistance to any abnormal movement of the ligaments, when the foot and ankle complex are put into an inversion or eversion situation.
After a trainer applies the base layers of tape to an ankle, they will then apply what is commonly known as a figure eight, or heel lock wrap to the ankle. This is the process of wrapping the tape around the back of the ankle, creating stabilizers that apply downward pressure on both the medial and laterals sides of the ankle. This concept is designed to help keep the tibia from separating from the ankle joint, and stretching the attached ligaments when the foot is in an abnormal position that could cause a sprain. The permanently attached heel lock straps on the model 329 provide significantly improved protection over standard taping with its elastic support and resilience. As the wearer puts the support on their foot, the heel lock straps are extended to their maximum length. This process now creates a rigid strap on both the medial and lateral sides of the support, to help stabilize the tibia to the ankle joint. Once again, it is the material and design that provides the level of protection that is needed to make the support effective.
The last process in taping an ankle is the application of additional tape to the ankle complex to provide additional medial and lateral support. This same process is accomplished on the 329 with the four inch wide medial and lateral straps. As these straps are pulled around the ankle complex and attached with the hook and loop fasteners, the continued stretch and elongation is sustained providing an exoskeleton of compression and support from the straps both sides of the foot. These straps provide significant resistance to any inversion or eversion situation, thus helping to eliminate any ankle sprain, or significantly reducing the severity of that potential injury.
Some of the unique features of the support are that unlike standard taping and lace up products, this item can be worn indefinitely without causing any discomfort to the wearer. Regardless of how long the brace is worn, the level of protection always stays at its highest level because of the 329’s improved support and elastic resiliency. If in the event a person is wearing the support, and they do sustain a slight injury, the first level of protection is already in place, which is compression. This controls swelling, which will usually dictate the length of time it takes to recover from an injury. It is possible and advised to apply ice directly over the brace, which will help shorten any recovery time.
One of the key features of the 329 is that it can be worn inside any type of footwear and it will not have any effect on shoe sizing. This includes slip on boots, lace up boots, athletic shoes and even casual or dress shoes. The 329 is always worn over a sock for ease of putting on, and this creates a barrier for any potential discomfort to the skin. The 329 is easily washed and dried in any normal laundry process and can be worn countless times while maintaining it’s superior support, comfort and elastic resiliency over the entire ankle complex .
